If you’ve just purchased your Amazon Smart Thermostat or are thinking of buying one, you’ll need to decide whether you’re up for doing the installation yourself or hiring a contractor to do the installation for you. Luckily, the installation and setup is fairly straightforward (in most cases), so if you’re opting for the DIY installation option, you should be able to get the job done and save yourself the cost of a paid installation. Even better, Amazon offers 24/7 customer service via phone, chat, or email to help walk you through the installation process if needed.

Before purchasing, it’s very important to check if the Amazon Smart Thermostat is compatible with your current HVAC system. The Amazon Smart Thermostat is compatible with most 24V heating and cooling systems. It does not support electric baseboard heating systems (110-240V).
Amazon Smart Thermostat Compatibility
Important: The Amazon Smart Thermostat requires a C-wire or the C-wire adapter kit (sold separately). If your HVAC system does not support a C-wire connection, the Amazon Smart Thermostat is not compatible with your HVAC system.
Time needed: 5 minutes.
Here are the steps to take to check for compatibility:
- Power off your Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system by using the master switch or circuit breaker box (this is important for your safety)
- Remove your current thermostat’s faceplate
- Check your old thermostat for high voltage wiring.
If you see any of these things, the Amazon Smart Thermostat won’t work with your wiring:
– Warning labels that say 110v/220v
– Wires labeled L1 or L2
– Wires with stranded ends
– Wires connected by wire nuts
- Check which terminals have wires connected to them.
The Amazon Smart Thermostat is compatible with most conventional forced-air HVAC and heat pump systems, and supports the following terminals:
– R, RC, RH
– B, C, O, O/B
– Y, Y1, Y2, Y2-X2, Y2-E
– W, W/E, W1, W1 (Aux), W2, W2/Aux
– Aux, X2, Aux/E
